Windows Vista

The World Missions Touchscreen does not currently work in Windows Vista. We have plans to upgrade the Touchscreen so it will, but that is still a year or two away. If your computer came with Windows Vista pre-installed, you need to purchase a retail copy of Windows XP Professional or Windows Media Center Edition and install that after erasing the hard drive before installing the World Missions Touchscreen.

Video Problems

Make sure to read the Version page about the latest software requirements.

  1. If you don't have the latest video releases, please update using the latest releases sent in the mail or the ones on the web.
  2. Please be sure to check with us if there is any question about this.

Note About Updating Windows

We recommend that you install all service packs and updates for your computer.

Troubleshooting Checklist

Either Windows 2000, Windows XP Professional or Windows Media Edition is required. XP Home will not run the Touchscreen.

Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) must be installed and configured properly. The Touchscreen software must be installed AFTER IIS is installed.

If videos do not play, check which version of Windows Media Player you are using. You must have Windows Media Player 9 or 10. This may be downloaded from Microsoft.

When you start the Touchscreen program, Internet Explorer may prompt you to "connect" or "work offline."  Please choose connect (or retry) to begin working. You may need to do this a few times.

If the "Loading… Missionary Information Center" screen is as far as the Touchscreen gets, you will see only the page with the Spinning Earth, the missions logo and the Flash Enabled logo. Make sure that all pop-up blockers are turned off in Internet Explorer. Also make sure that Internet Explorer is your default web browser. The Touchscreen does not run on FireFox, Opera or any other browser.

If the Touchscreen comes up with a "Page Not Found" error immediately when the Touchscreen starts, you must make sure that Script Blocking in your Anti-Virus program is not enabled. The Touchscreen software runs on scripts. Also make sure IIS is installed and running.

If the touchscreen comes up with "Page Not Found" errors when you touch the buttons within the touchscreen, check the following:

The Local Support Table may be missing:

  1. Make sure you have the Local Support Table loaded into the Touchscreen. It is a Microsoft Access database named "localsupport.mdb." It is found on your C drive at C:\inetpub\wwwroot\agfm\
  2. On the diskette or DVD included with the original installation, there is a file called "localsupport.exe".
  3. Double click that file when you have the disk in the Touchscreen computer. Click the UnZip option at the top right of the window.
  4. When it is finished, click Close.
  5. If you have lost your original diskette and need a fresh copy of the localsupport table, please email us or call to request that a new one be sent to you.
  6. If the file is in the proper location and the touchscreen still shows the error, right click on the file and select "Properties." Make sure the neither box at the bottom ("Read-only" or "Hidden") is checked.
    1. Click on the "Security" tab (If the Security tab does not show, click here)
    2. In the top box, select "Users ([machine name]\Users)"
    3. In the bottom box, check in the "Allow" column, the box in the "Full Control" row.
    4. If you have an "Everyone" item in the top box, select it.
    5. Then in the bottom box, check in the "Allow" column, the box in the "Full Control" row.

Flush the internet cache:

  1. Go to Control Panels then Internet Options and click on the Delete Files button.
  2. Check the Delete all offline content box and click OK.
  3. Click the Settings... button.
  4. Under Check for newer versions of stored pages, select Automatically.
  5. Click the OK button, for the Settings... dialog.
  6. Click the OK button for the Internet Options... dialog.
  7. Shut down the computer and wait a few seconds then restart the computer.
  8. Make sure you have IIS installed and configured correctly.

Common Problems

Somebody has found a way to access the computer by dragging their finger over some graphics. To fix that problem:

  1. Open the Internet Explorer 6 browser
  2. In the Tools menu select Internet Options...
  3. Click on the Advanced tab.
  4. Scroll down to the Multimedia section and uncheck the Enable Image Toolbar (requires restart) option.
  5. Click the OK button for the Internet Options... dialog.
  6. Restart your computer.

The text on the touchscreen looks too large, or the touchscreen elements are misaligned or pushed off the screen. To fix that problem:

  1. Right-click on your desktop and select the Properties... menu item.
  2. For Windows XP, click the Appearance tab.
    1. Choose Font size: Normal at the bottom of that dialog.
    2. Click the OK button.
  3. For Windows 2000, click the Settings tab and the Advanced... button near the bottom of the dialog
    1. Choose under Font size: Small Fonts.
    2. Click the OK button.
    3. When the Advanced... dialog closes, click the OK button on the Settings dialog.
  4. Open an Internet Explorer 6 browser window.
  5. In the View menu, select Text Size > Medium.
  6. Make sure you are viewing the touchscreen at the correct resolution - 1024x768.

The touchscreen program is larger than your screen. To fix that problem:

  1. Hit the Alt and the F4 keys at the same time to exit the touchscreen.
  2. Right-click the mouse button on the bare desktop and select Properties.
  3. In the Settings tab look for (XP) the Screen resolution box on the lower left, (Win 2000) the Screen area box on the lower right.
  4. Move the slider in that box to the right till the text below the slider says 1024 by 768.
  5. Click the OK button below, answer any dialog box that lets you change the screen size.
  6. Restart the touchscreen.

The movies do not play smoothly or they load very slowly. To fix that problem:

  1. Make sure you have enough memory in the computer: 256MB or more RAM. We recommend 512MB of RAM.
  2. Upgrade the computer to a faster one. Our current recommendations are for at least a 1.6GHz speed processor or equivalent. The faster your computer, the more satisfactory user experience you are likely to have.
