Requirements | Computer Equipment
Kiosk Vendors | Kiosk Plans

Requirements: Each church is free to choose a vendor to supply the computer equipment required to run the World Missions Touchscreen software. Specifications are listed below:

Hardware:
  • Intel or AMD processor 1.6GHz or equivalent (2.4GHz or higher recommended)
  • 1GB RAM
  • 40GB hard drive (at least)
  • DVD player required (all DVD players also play CDs)
  • Operating System: Windows XP Professional is recommended (see note). Media Center edition also has the required features.
  • WARNING: The World Missions Touchscreen will not run on Windows Vista.
  • WARNING: The World Missions Touchscreen will not display correctly on most High Definition (HD) Televisions, ones that have a 16:9 aspect ratio. We recommend standard 5:4 aspect ratio monitors that will display 1028x764 pixels.
  • Getting a computer with Windows XP a pdf article from Windows Secrets.
  • Windows Media Player 9.0 or greater
  • Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater
  • Speakers
  • Keyboard and mouse (for loading software and applying updates.)

Required:

  • For All World Missions Touchscreens
    • Internet Access (some computer in the church must have access to email to receive updates.)
    • Touchscreen Monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution for public areas; ordinary monitor for private or technician use
  • Only if you wish to Print Pages from the World Missions Touchscreen
    • A printer connected to the Touchscreen Computer and set as the default printer
  • Only if you wish to Send Email or use the AutoUpdate feature from the World Missions Touchscreen
    • Network Card (ethernet or wireless)
    • An always-on ethernet or wireless internet connection
    • Anti-Virus software and latest operating system service packs

Optional Equipment:

  • Network Card - may be required for future updates (useful if the church has an existing Network.)
  • 3.5 inch diskette drive or portable USB storage device (thumb drive) if the PC lacks internet access.
  • Printer (the Touchscreen software offers the option of printing selected pages)
  • CuteFTP 8 Professional software (if AutoUpdate option is selected.)

Suggestions:

  • We strongly recommend that you acquire the fastest possible system you can afford. Faster computers provide a more satisfying user experience than slower ones.
  • AMD processors and systems are often less expensive than Intel systems for equivalent speed.
  • A faster memory bus is often more important than processor speed.
  • The do-it-yourself builder can get into a 3GHz class processor and computer for around $500. We often use and recommend http://tigerdirect.com
  • Though AGWM Communications makes no warrantees and provides no assurances, some of our customers have successfully purchased equipment on ebay.com. Often touch screen monitors can be purchased for significantly reduced prices. Buyer Beware!.

NOTE: Microsoft will no longer be supporting Windows 2000 with major upgrades. Unless your kiosk will never be on the internet, we suggest that you purchase Windows XP Professional. However, if you are running the World Missions Touchscreen on Windows 2000 satisfactorily at this time, there is little reason to upgrade to XP. Windows Vista will not run the Touchscreen.
